Sponsored families get interviewed...

We had several stations set up today in a church. 52 sponsored families showed up to be interviewed, photographed, visit the doctor and receive prayer. We accomplished A TON today. Ryan's role was playing soccer with the kids...he did a great job! He really does an awesome job connecting without language...he actually maneuvered the entire team over to the photographer for a group photo!

Guy and I were at the prayer station. The Rwandan people have very strong faith! They all enjoyed having us pray for them, we prayed for strength and that they would know how much Jesus loves and cares for them. We had an interpreter, Patrick who is Rwandan and speaks four languages. Patrick is 26 years old and hoping to be accepted to university in the fall. Very nice young man.

Jeff helped out in many different areas...crowd control was a biggie! Especially near the doctor. Dr. Bill accomplished a lot, checking people, handing out vitamins and antibiotics. Unfortunately, so many people have worms from drinking bad water and we had very little medication to fight that.

That is what is disheartening...we try to help and make things better, but so many had to go home with their sickness and their hunger. Many families that are not yet sponsored arrived looking for help. There was one older man whose shirt was in shreds...just who Jeff was looking for, he was wearing a button down shirt over a t-shirt, so he literally gave that man the shirt off his back! That's my sweetie. So compassionate.

We press on to help in any way we can, hoping more and more families will get sponsored. It was very obvious who was and was not sponsored...the sponsored families have been able to buy clothes, food and malaria meds. The unsponsored look so thin and ragged. It's so sad.

Tomorrow we will meet the family we sponsor! We will need endurance tomorrow...3 hr. drive, 90 min. walk to our family!
Love, Pam

I find it interesting that you are mentioning the difference you see in the sponsored and unsponsored families. It is what I notice on a regular basis and it is what drives me on to continue! I wish we would have gotten a pic of Jeff giving his shirt away! I bet anything the guy will be wearing it next year...

Love you Melody

I wonder how you play sports when you know your water is limited. That must be hard to go all out, knowing you might get dehydrated.
