Amazi...Water

I spent some time again last night reading the 'family updates' on the Global Family Rescue (www.globalfamilyrescue.org) website. Dozens of families here in the US sent letters & photos to the GFR staff in Rwanda. The staff then translates the letters to the sponsored families. The 'updates' are the Rwandan families' responses back to their sponsors. The updates are so moving. Please read them if you get a chance. They just can't understand how someone that they don't know could love them so much. It is amazing what a sponsorship does for these people. It will literally save their lives. We will be able to meet many of these people on our trip!

I am also aware that there are many, many families waiting for a sponsor. What will my reaction be to these people? So many who need help. I've spoken with several people who traveled to Rwanda last year. One situation I heard has really stuck with me. There was a little girl who came up to one lady and asked for 'amazi' . Water. Of course, my friend thought the right thing to do was reach into her backpack and hand the girl her water bottle. The next thing she knew, every child in the area was pushing and shoving, knocking the girl down and the strongest boy ran off with the bottle. So, we are told not to give anyone our water bottle. How can this be the right thing to do? Will I be able to hug the little girl and walk away leaving her thirsty? I can't even imagine it.

GFR's mission statement is 'Transforming the world...one family at a time'. They are making this happen! The updates are so moving and yet, it just can't happen quickly enough for some.
